The science
behind GreenMind.

How we capture and process plant bioelectrical signals and turn them into useful insights for cultivation.

Bioelectrical signals

Plants respond to changes in their environment with measurable electrical signals — including changes in light, water availability, temperature, nutrients and pest pressure. Scientific studies show that these signals contain information about stress that conventional environmental sensors cannot provide.

GreenMind records these signals directly from the plant, continuously and non-invasively. Combined with environmental measurements such as temperature and soil moisture, they provide a broader picture of the plant's condition.

Three layers, one system

Sensing

Sensors attached to the plant capture bioelectrical signals alongside environmental measurements: temperature, light, humidity and soil moisture. All measurements are synchronized on a shared timeline.

Data processing

Raw data is automatically filtered, normalized and prepared as time series for analysis. Patterns and deviations are identified to support interpretation.

Analysis

Signal patterns are compared with documented stress events to study relationships between plant signals and actual conditions in the field.

Hardware

The system has three layers. ESP32-based sensor units collect data in the field and send it to Raspberry Pi gateways. The gateways store it locally and forward it to the central server. Local storage protects measurements during connection interruptions.

Communication between field gateways and the server is encrypted using HTTPS. Each gateway authenticates with its own API key.
